The RFID USB Reader is a simple to use, USB to serial base unit for the ID-2, ID-12, and ID-20 readers. Simply plug a reader into the headers and attach a miniUSB cable. Open a terminal program of your choice at 9600bps 8N1, then scan your 125kHz ID tag and the unique 32-bit ID will be shown on the screen. The unit is based on a FTDI chip and comes with a read LED and buzzer.

This new revision uses SMD headers for the RFID module, and has a solder jumper which allows you to disable or enable the buzzer.

Dimensions: 1.4x1.2x0.57"

Note: This product does not come with the required RFID reader module itself (ID-2, ID-12, or ID-20) which is sold separately. Please add your desired RFID module to your order separately.

4Works Great. Just probably not what you need.May 08, 2014

So, one point of confusion is that this board alone WILL NOT READ RFID. You need the actual RFID reader chip... Those chips are ID-20, ID-12 which are also available... But, if you didn't know that, you're best bet is to look for the kit that comes with it. You'll also probably need some RFID tags or dongles to play with.. So Make sur eyou order those too.

I actually made this mistake, but was able to source an ID-20 and some RFID tags locally.

I used this board with a RaspberryPi with no issues. And It has been lots of fun to play with.

But seriously, if you are here and you don't already have a ID-12 or ID-20 chip --- This is the wrong one for you -- get the kit!

It could be just my application. This item must be for people to practice writing drivers or something. Anyway, long story short, I've already tossed it into the trash.
